Sessions overviewScottie: remotely connected
Format: Demo | Language: English | Tags: social, ubiquity
By: Betty Bonn | Waag Society
Research and design project, Scottie, focuses on developing play for participants who are not in the same location and subsequently measuring participants’ feelings of connectedness.
The primary target group consists of children, 10 to 15 years old, who are hospitalized and hence separated from their family, friends and classmates. Most hospitals provide access to computers and phones. These means of communication are limited to verbal or text based expressions. Affective communication and feeling connected are not necessarily expressed in words. Scottie provides the possibility of feeling connected without having to use words. Will remote play with loved ones contribute to feeling connected?
Scottie is a project of Waag Society. Waag Society cooperates with TU Delft and TU Eindhoven in researching social connectedness.
The project is supported by the GATE project, funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Netherlands ICT Research and Innovation Authority (ICT Regie). Scottie has been supported in the past by the Dutch Ministry of OCW, Stichting Kinderpostzegels Nederland, and the VSB Fonds.
